Men Get Breast Cancer Too!!

I'm a newcomer to the disease. About a month ago, I discovered a lump right under the nipple on my left breast while showering. I was doctoring for pneumonia at the time, so mentioned it to a nurse, who made an immediate appointment with my doctor. She also moved fast and got me lined up for a mammogram and an appointment with a breast cancer surgeon the next week. The mammogram and ultrasound were inconclusive, but the excisional biopsy brought up a .7 cm tumor. Two weeks later, I had a lumpectomy and a sentinal node biopsy.

Two nodes found positive and now will see oncologists next week to set up radiation and chemo. Any advice from fellow travellers would be much appreciated. What I hope to find (probably does not exist) is a center which has done research specific to male breast cancer that might come up with more specific info than that the woman's treatment "seems" to be the same as the man's. I had a mastectomy and lymphnodes removed on my right side in 1995, at the age of 63. Was on Tamoxifan for 5 years. Found out I have metastic breast cancer in my bones about 2 years ago. It is now in my liver too. I am taking chemo for the liver. Not much we can do about the bones. I have several Pink Ribbons, and look foreward to people to ask why I wear it. Men in particular. There are so many that dont know we can get it. If you find a lump, run, dont walk to your doctor. This is a great web site. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in may/99. In Aug/2000 it had spread to the spine, theycured that problem. Then in Jan. /2003 they found spots on my lung, and I am back on chemo for the third time.Gary Earle mount pearl, nl canada - Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 08:49:18

I was diagnosed and treated for male breast cancer in May '00. I have been taking ARIMIDEX (no noticeable side effects)since Sep '00, and continue to be cancer-free.  Hello: I am doing a research paper on male breast cancer and would like some help finding additional information. I was very surprised after going to an oncology clinic in the county where I live only to find that there was no literature available on this subject.  My dad has been diagnosed, for a second time with breast cancer today. He first was diagnosed 2 yrs ago. He had his left breast completely removed and went through 6 treatments of chemo. I thought that I should give an update on my Breast cancer. I have stopped taking Tamaxifin but still having some depression and occasional hot flashes. I have been SLOWLY tapering off the Paxil, and expect to get off it eventually. A small hard mass noticed under the nipple of the right breast. I did not know whether to be concerned, I am diabetic, kidney and liver failure, on dialysis, congested heart failure and legally blind. Yet still if I bring something new up they always want to just pass it off. So I came to your site to see what I could find out and if I should be concerned. I thank you.
